Old Thieves is an original play that was first performed in 1989. Everyone in Korea who loves the theatre knows it. First of all, the actors who went through the show are famous. Lee Sung-min of the drama Reborn Rich, Moon Sung-keun of Moving and Jin Sun-kyu of King the Land are some of the leading Korean actors currently dominating the OTT (Over The Top) media scene. They have risen to stardom on the strength of their acting alone.

This season's cast includes Park Chul-min, who played such a witty role in the drama Sungkyunkwan Scandal and the film 1987, as well as Tae Hang-ho as the "less old thief" and Noh Jin-won and Jeon Jae-hyung as the "even older thief." They are all "scene stealers" who cross the boundaries between theatre, film and drama. In particular, Park Chul-min has been working on Old Thieves for 21 years, since 2003. He is one of the best improvisers and ad-libbers among Korean actors. In this performance, he shows off his talent to the fullest.

The story begins with the "less old thief" and the "even older thief," released on special pardon for the president's inauguration, planning one last heist. But the place they've infiltrated is "his" art gallery. They are caught by the police and taken to an interrogation room, and this is where the real comedy of politics and current affairs begins. It's easy to see why these actors are among Korea's leading acting talents.

Can a male-female friendship be purely platonic? You would say, "Of course," but can't help but be bothered by your lover's friend of the opposite sex. How does he or she know your lover’s house password? Shouldn't he (she) be going to his (her) house to play games? The more you try to be "cool," the more pissed you get. But when you’re ready to talk about it, you realize you have a female (male) friend too!

The theater begins with Mi-ri, a woman who has never been in a relationship, and Sung-jin, a man who is perfect but unlucky in love, and they fall in love. Their relationship grows deeper and deeper, but the more they do, the more their friends Min-seok and Yoon-ji get on their nerves. One day, the four of them go on a trip together, but will their journey be all right?

With reviews like "The funniest and most entertaining play I've seen this year!!!" (liylsh**), "Not a typical romantic comedy" (wwinter122***), "The most realistic play about real life problems" (khkjis***), it's a story about ordinary couples with their own friends of the opposite sex, a familiar story that you can’t help but relate to. With an audience rating of 9.9 on Interpark Tickets, this romantic comedy captivates with its "controversial everyday" themes that everyone has experienced at least once in their lives.

Do you enjoy reading Agatha Christie's mystery novels? Are you a huge fan of the animated series Detective Conan and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock? Then Shear Madness is for you. Since opening in Boston in 1980, it has held the Guinness Book of World Records as the longest-running show in American history. In Korea, it has topped the theater booking website every year since its first performance in 2022.

The beauty of Shear Madness is its immersion. It's called "immersive theatre," where the audience is not just on stage for a short time but is leading the play with the actors.

One day, a murder takes place upstairs in the Shear Madness beauty salon. The detective, who is undercover as a customer, suspects that the killer is one of the four people in the salon. But he can't figure it out on his own. Like Watson, Sherlock Holmes' best friend, the audience interrogates the characters in the play as the detective's partner. The culprit is also "chosen" from those who receive the most votes from the audience. Of course, this is a comedy genre, consisting of gags and slapstick, and the ending changes every time, depending on the audience's choice. You may get different impressions depending on who is to blame, so you can't help but want to see it again.

"A play that deserves ten stars!!!" "A whole life in 90 minutes!" These are some of the reviews of Beautiful Life posted on a theater booking website. You may have some doubts before seeing the show, but you may find yourself writing the same review afterward.

Beautiful Life won the "Fine Art Award" in the theatre/music category at the 2019 Korean Wave Awards. It is given to the work that best represents South Korea in the year, proving that the play is worthy of global acclaim and that people around the world can relate to.

Two lead roles, Chun-shik and Soon-ok, fall in love from the first moment they meet. They drift apart for a while but eventually start a family and grow old together as an old couple. One day, Soon-ok falls ill and decides to get a divorce for the sake of her husband, Chun-sik. The film moves back and forth between the couple's present and past. You might expect the story to be depressing or sad, but it is both funny and touching, making you laugh and cry at the same time. The two actors are excellent in their performances. They play an old couple, their younger versions, and even extras. It's hard to believe that this is a two-person play. It is a multicasting work, and writer Kim Won-jin and director Cho Joon also appear alternatively to play the role of Chun-sik.

500/30! All Koreans know what this means. Especially if one is from the local provinces and looking for the first home in Seoul. 500/30, which means a deposit of five million won and a monthly rent of 300,000 won, gives us an idea of what this piece is about. But we can't jump to the conclusion right away because this comedy has “suspense,” too.

The drama is set in Dwaeji Villa, which consists of 23.14m2 studio-style rooms and a rooftop room. The tenants are Heo Deok, a man from Gyeongsang-do who barely makes ends meet by running a cart bar; Heueong-mai, who is madly in love with him; Bae Byeon, a troublemaking high school student; Miss Cho, an ingenuous beauty; and the landlady who keeps them in a bad place with the rents! One day, a murder occurs in the villa, and a full-fledged mystery begins.

The characters entertain the audience with the expected "tiki-taka." The unique performances of the actors captivate the audience, and there's never a dull moment. It's a bonus to solve the mystery while laughing and having fun. The theater also captures the sadness and sorrow of ordinary Korean people in the story.

The only circular line in Seoul's subway system, Line 2 is an endlessly ride when you're drunk and dozing off. What's going on the city's most bustling subway line?

The production team behind the web novel Cats on the Roof has turned a webtoon into a play. Jung Eun-kyung and Yeo Won's webtoon of the same name was published on Naver Webtoon from 2015 to 2016. It was popular at the time, with a rating of 9.3, and many Line 2 subway riders must have watched it on the subway.

Subtitled "a subway survival comedy," Tenants of Subway Line 2 tells the story of trainee conductor Lee Ho-sun and the homeless people who hide out on Line 2. After being dumped by his girlfriend, Ho-sun gets drunk and ends up at the end of Line 2. There he meets the "Line 2 tenants": Sung-nae, a cynical city girl; Koo-ui, a mysterious grandfather; Bang-bae, the real power behind the group; and Yeok-sam, a middle-aged man from Gyeongsang-do who has been preparing for the civil service exam for years. The conflicts between Ho-sun who has to get rid of the Line 2 tenants in order to get promoted to a full-time position, and the tenants who have nowhere to go, make the audience laugh and cry because it seems to reflect their lives today.

Kim Seon-ho, who became a major Hallyu star after starring in tvN's Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha, and Park Sung-hoon, a rising Hallyu star who starred in Netflix's The Glory and Queen of Tears, what do they have in common? They are both former actors in the play Cat on the Rooftop. Each played the lead character, Lee Kyung-min: Park Sung-hoon took on the role in 2012 and Kim Seon-ho in 2015, respectively. Moreover, at the beginning of 2024, Yongseung from the idol group VERIVERY followed suit. It's a play in which the actors who are now Hallyu stars starred.

But it is by no means a play that relies solely on actors. The original work of the same name is a legendary web novel published by Kim Yu-ri in 2001. It was made into a drama of the same title in 2003 starring Hallyu star Kim Rae-won and adapted into a play in 2010. It has been running for 14 years since its premiere, attracting 2.7 million viewers. It has been loved by generations as a drama and a play for over 20 years.

Cat on the Rooftop is the story of Kyung-min, who was born and raised in Seoul, and Jeong-eun, who came to Seoul from Daegu. They are scammed into signing a contract for the same rooftop place, live together, and eventually fall in love with each other. The contrast between the two actors' back-and-forth tiki-taka and their parodies of two cats, Mung-chi and Gyeo-yang-i, is hilarious. The film is fast-paced and light-hearted, making it an enjoyable watch.

Book’s Art Journey is a family-friendly show that's perfect for watching with your kids. The Korean title, Bookgeukgom, refers not only to a polar bear that lives in the Arctic but also to a bear that loves to read books. The main characters are Book Bear and his friend Tori, who left the North Pole when the ice melted. The receive letters of concern from their young friends, which they take from the book tree and read them.

Book Bear and Tori not only read picture books but also meet the historical figure Yu Gwan-sun, make Taegeukgi, the national flag of Korea, and shout "hooray" for Korea's independence. They also reflect on how to protect the environment so polar bears can return to the Arctic. Through these adventures, the young audience becomes familiar with books and gradually expands their thinking.

The show varies from Episode 0-3, depending on the schedule, but each episode engages the young audience with fun elements like musical theater, shadow play, sand art, magic, and more. Additionally, they interact with the children by listening to their concerns and asking for help, rather than sticking to the usual one-way theater format. Isn't that what true participatory theater is all about?

Naksan Mountain (alt. 125 meters) is one of the four inner mountains of Seoul, and the mountain corresponding to the Azure Dragon of the East. It was also called Naktasan Mountain, which can be translated to Camel Mountain, because the terrain resembled a camel's back. It also had another name, Taraksan Mountain, “tarak” meaning fermented milk, because there was a royal ranch in the area that supplied milk to the palace. After the 1960s, the original appearance of Naksan Mountain disappeared due to apartments and dense housing, and the Seoul Metropolitan Government established a restoration plan. As part of this plan, a park project was carried out, and it opened Naksan Park in July 2002. Currently, Naksan Park has established itself as a resting place for citizens to feel the beautiful atmosphere of Hanyangdoseong, or the Seoul City Wall, and green forests. It has gained much popularity as a place for seeing the most beautiful night view in Seoul.

What happens behind the scenes of a theater stage? What is a day like in the life of actors who portray someone else’s story? Going to the End seeks to answer these questions.

The play follows three actors: Yeong-hyeon, who plays Hamlet and is weary of the same repertoire; Gyeong-gu, who lives and breathes for romance; and Junho, a newcomer who has just made his debut at Daehangno. Today marks the final performance of their theater troupe, but not a single audience member shows up, causing the play to be interrupted. As they tidy up the stage and share drinks, they express the struggles of life as actors. Suddenly, Junho returns with a group of audience members. The question now is, will they perform again or not? To be, or not to be—that is the question.

The antics of preparing a makeshift performance blend with the realistic, heartfelt conversations they have over drinks, evoking both laughter and emotion. The actors’ passion for the theater is palpable, but so is the pressure of survival. This mirrors not only the struggles of the actors but also the dissonance between dreams and reality that many of us experience. Perhaps this is why the audience empathizes with their situation and is eager to applaud.
