Jung-gu is the heart of Daejeon Metropolitan City and is home to Bomunsan Mountain and Banghwasan Mountain. Bomunsan Mountain is located in the southern part of the city and was once called "Bomulsan" meaning "treasure mountain" because it was believed that treasure was buried in the mountain. Bomunsan Mountain was designated as a park in 1965. There are many mineral springs and the azaleas and cherry blossoms that bloom in spring. In autumn, the leaves change to a beautiful color in the maple forest. This park has the Bomunsanseong Fortress and Bomunsa Temple Site, an outdoor music hall, an observatory, amusement facilities, a cable car, and about 10 hiking trails, making it a great place to exercise. There are also recreational facilities such as mountain climbing as well as leisure facilities including an indoor roller skating rink in Sajeong Park, soccer field, outdoor music hall, Greenland, and Youth Square.



The Bomunsan Forest Trail is a 13-kilometer walking trail that circles Bomunsan Mountain. The dense forest along the trail creats a cool shade to walk under and boasts beautiful fall foliage in autumn.

⊙ Yussine Bueok (유씨네부엌)

Yussine Bueok, situated at the gateway to Bomunsan Mountain, is a shabu-shabu restaurant. The standout item on the menu is the Beoseot shabu shabu (mushroom shabu-shabu), featuring an assortment of mushrooms and vegetables. In this dish, the meat, vegetables, and mushrooms are delicately cooked in a light broth, allowing their natural flavors to shine. After enjoying the meat, diners can choose to stir-fry rice in the remaining broth or add noodles and eggs to create a hearty porridge. Another popular choice at Yussine Bueok is the Eongttung shabu shabu, notably served with gorgonzola pizza, adding a delightful fusion twist to the traditional shabu-shabu experience.

Situated at the gateway to Bomunsan Mountain, Banchan Sikdang is known for its expertise in steamed barley rice. This dish is typically presented with vegetables and red chili paste, and it's mixed with a choice of either perilla or sesame oil, enhancing its flavors. The restaurant's standard side dishes include biji jjigae (pureed soybean jjigae), doenjang jjigae (soybean paste jjigae), and gyeranjjim (steamed eggs). Additionally, their savory green onion pancake, enriched with squid and chives, is a highly recommended specialty.

Hanbat Sports Complex consists of a main stadium, indoor arena, tennis court, field-and-track practice stadium, and gateball court. The main stadium has a capacity to hold 26,000 spectators and has a soccer field and 400-meter eight lane track for various sports events. Other indoor arenas provide space for sports including basketball, volleyball, and badminton as well as promotional events.

Hanwha Life Ballpark, located in Daejeon, is a KBO League professional baseball stadium. During baseball season, the park attracts a large number of visitors. The stadium's food and beverage outlets are located in the third base and outfield, center field, and first base and outfield.

Geumgwang Hanjeongsik is celebrated for its exquisite Korean table d'hote course menu. Simin Kalguksu is celebrated for its unique culinary offerings, including Wang dongaseu (jumbo pork cutlet) and Eolkeun kalguksu (spicy noodle soup). The Eolkeun kalguksu, garnished with chives and seaweed powder, is flavorful yet not overly pungent. Its noodles, freshly kneaded each day, boast a chewy and savory quality. Another specialty is the Jeontong kalguksu (traditional noodle soup), featuring a light, soothing broth. The restaurant's signature crispy wang dongaseu, enhanced with a secret sauce, pairs excellently with dubu duruchigi (stir-fried bean curd). 

⊙ Seodaejeon Park (서대전공원)

Seodaejeon Park is located at the site of a previous military base that closed in 1975. The site served as the venue for the 1993 Daejeon Expo, and was turned into the current park visitors see now at that time. The park features a large grassy field, outdoor performance stage, and more. The park serves as the venue for various festivals throughtout the year, including a Children's Day event and Kalguksu festival.

Manna is a renowned restaurant known for its sukiyaki, a traditional Japanese dish. This dish boasts a delightful combination of beef, vegetables, mushrooms, and fish cakes, all simmered in a delicate broth. Typically, the cooked ingredients are dipped in raw egg, which adds a rich and creamy texture. Alternatively, the cooked meat can be dipped in ssamjang (mixed paste) and wrapped in lettuce. Complementing the meal, lemonsawa (a mix of soju or sake with lemon juice) pairs well with sukiyaki. The experience is often rounded off with lemon tea, providing a refreshing and soothing conclusion to the dining experience.

Miso Bonga Smile Kalguksu is renowned for its kalguksu (noodle soup), featuring handmade noodles. Popular summer dishes include son kongguksu (noodles in cold soybean soup), suyuk (boiled pork slices), and the crispy kimchijeon (kimchi pancake), which are also favorites among patrons.
